Part of "Unikt Publikt" - a collaboration with ArkDes and GIL, 2019-2020.

The goal of the project was to suggest a revision to a public space in Gothenburg. The participating teams included members with variying capabilites regarding functions that sometimes are taken for granted - for instance mobility or, as in our case, vision.

Drottningtorget, a town square next to the central station in Gothenburg, function as a gateway from which visitors continue in several directions. Surrounded by traffic on all sides, it's a complicated space to navigate, even for those with perfect vision.

The proposal found inspiration in the boulevards and monumental axes of mid 19th century city planning. Easily navigated spaces, distinctly framed by the surrounding trees and facades - a visual guide on the urban scale.

The circular addition to Drottningtorget creates a calm amidst the surrounding traffic. The main routes onward into the city are marked by portals, where the light and the sky create a sharp contrast to the matte black wall. Each opening with a specific form of their own, using the sky as a guiding signpost.
